After conducting an initial search of all major local competitors in similar industries, it became clear that no-one with the right qualifications and skills-set was to be found in the country. So, we did the only other thing we needed to do – expand our search to include global markets. We discovered that there were only a where a handful of qualifying candidates, whom we approached. Admittedly, this process took quite some time before candidates began taking an interest and engaging in exploratory discussions. Once this was buttoned down, we flew the preferred candidate, who was a South African employed offshore, out to South Africa while negotiations were being concluded. Individuals of this calibre and professional standing unfortunately don’t come at a dime a dozen. After an intensive search and identification process, potential candidates were identified and approached. The only problem was that these individuals were very happy and comfortable in their current work environments and weren’t actually looking to move. Some of our foremost skills are persuasion and negotiation , and we are happy to report that a high calibre appointment was concluded.
We discovered that to find individuals with exceptional skills in this space, apart from the fact that they are scarce, and very well looked after, are also very reluctant to seriously consider alternative opportunities. We were not easily thwarted. Through sheer persistence and hard negotiations, we finally managed to put together a new team that were made up of highly-sought after individuals of colour.
